PACIFIC URBANISM

CASE STUDY

THE WEDGE

VENICE | LOS ANGELES, CA

The Wedge creates four private interior worlds at one of the busiest intersections in Venice. On a triangular property, curved at its creation to follow the arc of a canal rather than the flow of traffic, the lofts inevitably face into the headlights of oncoming traffic. The façade prevents the intrusion of Venice Boulevard, simultaneously embracing and protecting private lives from the energy of the city. Forming a bridge between the historic civic center and a transforming neighborhood, the Wedge is in the spirit of experimentation that is fundamental to the ethos of Venice. The architecture integrates artwork by Nancy Monk and Randy West.
